Bring Your Own Phone To Straight Talk

If you have an AT&T/Tmobile phone or an Unlocked GSM phone you can bring your smartphone/cell phone to Straight Talk. If you have an AT&T phone such as an iPhone you can purchase an Straight Talk (AT&T) sim. You can even choose a micro sim card for your iPhone (so need for sim cutters)!

All you do is go HERE and purchase a SIM card. Straight Talk’s unlimited data, text, MMS, talk all for $45 a month blows the competition for MVNO’s out of the water.  I just like how easy Straight Talk makes it for you. Just to note: This will not work with (as stated on StraightTalk.Com): Blackberry, CDMA phones (Verizon, Sprint, Metro PCS) or branded Straight Talk, TracFone, SafeLink and Net 10 phones.

New Virgin Mobile Phones On The Way

Late night post for everyone here but Virgin Mobile has announced two new Android phones for this Holiday season. The LG Optimus Slider and the HTC Wildfire S. The Optimus will be a running Android 2.3 and have a 3.2-inch HVGA display, 3.2MP camera and 1500mah battery. It will be available online on Oct. 16th for $200 and in Sprint stores on Oct. 30th. The HTC Wildfire will be in silver at Best Buy and white at Radio Shack starting October 23rd. It will also be $200. It will have a 3.2inch HVGA display, 5MP camera with flash, Android 2.3, 600 MHz processor, and HTC Sense.

It is great that Virgin Mobile is adding more Android phones to their lineup. I still think their best Android phone right now is the Motorola Triumph (1Ghz processor) because those two new ones announced seem to be on the low end (600MHz processor).

This is the first time I’ve ever seen  4G on a prepaid phone. I saw it today on a website called Simple Mobile. They also have very cheap mobile plans that will help out the budget conscious consumer. They have plans like $25 unlimited nationwide 15 day talk and text, $40 unlimited nationwide text, talk, and web in 3G, and $60 unlimited nationwide talk text and high speed web with 4g speeds.

This is cheaper than Straight Talk, Verizon, AT&T and Virgin Mobile just to name a few. I went and read on and learn a bit more about who is over simple mobile. I wondered if it was AT&T or T-Mobile. From what I have read it seems as if it is running on T-Mobile. However, it is still impressive for it to be running a 4G network on a prepaid device.  Another cool thing about this is the fact that you can use any unlocked GSM mobile phone. They have an approved list of devices that you can use on their network on the website. They have a very extensive list and I think that you’ll be pleased with the devices they offer.

The closest I found to my location is Knoxville that offers 4G service. However, that may not be a problem in your area. If you’re planning to get off contract I believe that this service could be something you might be interested in. At least give their website a try. One interesting thing to note, is that they offer a micro Sim for the iPhone 4, even though it is not on the approved list. Yeah that’s right, you can get an iPhone 4 on prepaid.

Samsung Transform Headed To Boost Mobile In October!

Another Android phone is on its way to Boost Mobile and this time its packing a 1GHZ processor, Android 2.3, Front VGA camera, 3 MP rear camera, and a full QWERTY keyboard. The phones name is the Samsung Transform Ultra which is the updated form of the Sprint Samsung Transform. It is expected to hit store shelves on Oct 7th for $229.

Verizon Wireless $50 Prepaid Plan Details!

So Verizon’s trial plan of $50 Unlimited Prepaid plan is getting the go in more locations. Before the trial was just based in California and Florida. Now locations in Tennessee is being added and maybe more shortly. This as many sales agents have said will hurt contract sales! This new $50 prepaid plan is for: unlimited talk, text, web and 411! I know some of you have the Straight Talk CDMA Verizon phones and are using the $45 plan with them. But as you know from past posts that Straight Talk is moving to Sprint for its CDMA portion of phones. (although yours will still work on Verizon — as far as I know!)

Unfortunately, this plan does not apply to Smartphones. It only applies to feature phones! It seems a bunch of prepaid carriers are going with an all you can eat plan. With Virgin Mobiles $55 Unlimited, AT&T is $50 Unlimited, Boost Mobile is $50 (with every 6-month on time payment gets $5 discount on monthly payments to $35), Straight Talk $45 Unlimited, and that is just a few of them. So let’s see how this all plays out over time as the prepaid market heats up.

Why you ask? Because people are tethering them to their computer and using them for home internet service. Also you can use the sim card inside those phones for any At&t phone as reported in an earlier post. So if you wanna do this get them while you can.

UPDATE: This news was giving by an actual Straight Talk vendor at a Walmart store. They were to be replaced by an Motorola Touch Screen GSM phone and one another that I can’t remember. The touch screen phone is NOW in stores. So maybe it’s just a matter of time before they are pulled. However, they have not been pulled from the shelfs yet at Walmart. I will keep everyone updated.

What prepaid carrier do you choose and why?

Ok today I’m wanting to ask all my readers what prepaid carrier they’re using. What if your not? Then, why not? Let’s go ahead and get into it. What I use is Virgin Mobile which is using Sprint towers for a signal. I only pay $25 a month and I get 300 minutes, unlimited text messaging and unlimited data. I also have a great Android phone the LG Optimus V which I use on the service as well. I used to have an iPhone 4 from Verizon Wireless. This is how the plans (I had with contract vs. what I use now) break down.

Verizon Wireless

450 minutes = $39.99
500 messages = $10
Unlimited Data = $30
Total: = $79.99
P.S. Don’t forget about that ETF fee of $350!

with Virgin Mobile this is what I pay!

300 minutes
Unlimited Messaging
Unlimited Data
Total: = $25 (THAT’S $5 less than just the UNLIMITED data plan on Verizon)
P.S. NO ETF FEE! Quit anytime!

So am I missing anything because I’m no longer with Verizon Wireless? Nope. I have an Android phone which goes toe to toe with anything that the iPhone could offer me. Then, on top of that Virgin has got a great phone coming this summer called the Motorola Triumph. So ask yourself. How much are you paying for your wireless bill? I’ve saved a lot by going prepaid. It might have took me awhile to realize that but it’s very true. You will save a lot by going prepaid.

Motorola Droid Triumph to Virgin Mobile!

Look what was announced from Virgin Mobile it’s called the Motorola Droid Triumph and it will be available this summer. Currently there is no word on price but in my opinion they do need to keep it reasonable. The Optimus V and Intercept phones are priced at $200 but with how feature packed this one it is obviously going to cost a lot more! So what is its spec list? Find out below!

1GHZ Processor
4.1 inch WVGA touch screen
front/back camera (back camera is 5 megapixel) w/ LED flash
HD Video Capture in 720p
HDMI output
Android 2.2

If it is priced under $300 then I believe this one will be a strong seller in the prepaid market.
