If you visit Straight Talk’s website you will notice that when you try to purchase a sim card, it will only offer a T-mobile compatible sim. Even if you select unlocked GSM phone it still says this phone must be a T-mobile compatible phone. If you our currently using an AT&T compatible phone on Straight Talk it will still work.

Some of the phones currently sold still use AT&T but it isn’t known for how much longer they will be sold. We haven’t had any confirmation rather or not Straight Talk’s deal with AT&T is over but we will let you know as soon as we do.

Straight Talk will begin offering the iPhone 5 ($649.99) and iPhone 4 ($449.99). They will also be selling nano sims for BYOD. The iPhone 4 will operate on the Verizon network and the 5 will work off of AT&T. Straight Talk will most likely announce this later this week.

The iPhone 5 just came out and people are wondering how to place it on Straight Talk. You can use the Noosy Nano Sim card cutter to get your regular/micro sim to nano size. Some of the cutters actually include sandpaper which will help you get the sim card to the right thickness.

Straight Talk doesn’t currently offer nano sim cards on their site. I think Straight Talk will carry them next year. Nano sims are used in far to few phones right now for them to offer it on ST. By sometime next year more and more phones will start to use the new sim which will prompt ST to offer them.

Straight Talk May Slow Your Data Down

I heard some reports that Straight Talk slows down your data sometime after just a month of service. I have also heard that they slow down data and then speed it back up every few weeks. I have experienced this to and it seems that they are still giving you the same amount of data. The catch is that instead of giving you say 3-4 mbs download they change it to 0.50 mbs download and move the faster speeds to upload. I noticed when I was getting very slow speeds I was getting .50 down and 5 up. I don’t know how they do this but next time your data slows down on Straight Talk do a Speedtest and check the upload speeds.

If Straight Talk slows your data speeds down then just a quick call to customer service usually fixes it (for a little while).

Do you want to get your MMS and Data working on Straight Talk without a jailbreak?

The following is what you will need to do this:

T-mobile Sim Card
Noosy Sim Cutter
iPhone 4S
Pin

Here is how you do it:

These instructions are written using iOS6. You can only use the following methods if your iPhone supports multi tasking.

You need to be able to access the Cellular Data Network tab in Settings>General>Cellular. When you have the Straight Talk sim in the phone it will not appear. This stops you from being able to set the correct MMS APN settings on your phone. How to get around this is by using a un-activated T-mobile sim card.

I got my T-mobile sim card from a prepaid phone that I bought on sale at Walgreens for $14.99. I then took the sim card out and used my Noosy sim card cutter to get the card to micro size. You could use scissors to do this but it is much easier to use the sim card cutter.

Take your ST micro sim card out of your iPhone 4S. Then place your newly cut micro sim card from T-mobile inside your iPhone. Go to Settings>General>Cellular (sometimes you have to wait till’ Cellular activates) and then Cellular Data Network will appear and tap into it. Congratulations! You have successfully made it to the APN settings area. First though, double click your home button and bring up the multi-tasking submenu on your phone and go to another app. If you don’t do this quick your iPhone will realize that your not using a activated sim and go back to the activation screen.

After you’ve successfully multi tasked over to another app, (even if the phone goes back to the activation screen) take the T-mobile sim card out and put the ST one back in. Once your phone has registered that your back on Straight Talk you need to hit the home button twice and switch back to settings. It has most likely placed random settings in the APN under Cellular Data Network. You will want to put the following settings in for the APN.

Data APN att.mvno
MMS APN att.mvno
MMS MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33:80

Once you have entered these settings double click the home button to open the multitasking menu. Switch over to another application and then switch back to the settings app. You must do this using the multi tasking menu by double clicking your home button. Once you switch back to the settings app and the APN is the same then you know it worked. Go back to the home screen and test your data and MMS. It should work!

Alternative: When switching out of your settings app you could go into your Messaging app and test a MMS. If it fails you could always switch back to your settings and check your APN settings.

Don’t want to be with Straight Talk anymore? If you don’t then this is the way to port your number to another carrier. If you go to a Verizon/AT&T/Tmobile/Sprint store and have a Straight Talk phone number you want to port, the carrier will ask for your account number and pin. So, what is the account number and pin? It’s a very easy answer! Your serial number on the phone your using with Straight Talk is your account number. What about the PIN you ask? There isn’t any PINS with Straight Talk.

So, next time you want to port over a Straight Talk phone number, just remember it’s your serial number! (not ESN/IMEI)

Lg Optimus Zip From Straight Talk

LG Optimus Zip is now available for $179.88 at local Walmart stores in the Verizon coverage area. From what I remember it has an 800 MHZ processor and sliding QWERTY keyboard running Gingerbread (Android 2.3). It is a good choice for those who either cannot find the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim (1GHZ processor) in stores or have to have a sliding QWERTY keyboard. LG Optimus Zip is the newest Android phone on ST that used the CDMA-V )Verizon network.

The LG Optimus Black is Straight Talk’s flagship smartphone. The phone boasts numerous improvements over other Android handsets currently offered on their network. It still has Gingerbread, 1Ghz processor, a 4″ screen, 5MP camera with flash, and you also get a $20 gift card when you order.

You can only use a $45 Unlimited Plan or an $60 Unlimited plus International. The handset is currently available for only $329.99 on their website and if you’re wondering it works on the Sprint network. Similar to many other handsets on the network (excluding ZTE Merit and Samsung Galaxy Proclaim)
